WHAT IS COGNITIVE HYPNOTHERAPY?

Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a framework of models that allow the therapist to choose the appropriate technique based on what the client thinks and feels. It acts as a meta-therapy meaning that it involves the best approach selected from a range of therapies. Each client is individual and will have different needs and it is the role of the therapist to choose the best course of action by working within the clients model. The aim:

The aim of cognitive hypnotherapy is to use a natural trance state, the same one we use in everyday life such as when we are driving to work and don’t know how we got there. We are in these natural trance states 90% of the time.

We can have anything we want we just have to change our thought patterns to allow this to happen. These thought patterns are stored in the unconscious and it is by unlearning misinterpretations from these past traumatic events that changes can be made. This could be by changing a limiting belief connected to a past event and to the relationship behind it, creating a butterfly effect for change.

WHAT IS NEURO LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING (NLP)

This describes how the problem state is being acted out by the individual and the thought patterns that interfere with what we really want. It allows for positive change by resolving these thought processes.

NLP helps to increase the things we want more of by improving on what we currently achieve and changing what isn’t working by replacing old habits with new healthy ones. It does this by using certain techniques to stop our automatic behaviour and to learn more effective behaviours.

My aim is to understand what your problem state is so that we can find a solution for change. We all make up our own realities and just as we have the power to make up what we want we also have the power to create what we don’t want or what we want more of.

WHY CHOOSE ME?

I’ll teach you techniques that you can use long-term to achieve your goals.

• I aim to help you in 2-3 sessions, unlike other therapies which can take years. This is a solution based therapy that once an issue has been dealt with there is no going back, giving your power back to you.

• I am fully qualified and insured Cognitive Hypnotherapist and NLP ( practitioner). I am a member of the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) and National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) and abide by their code of ethics and conduct.

What common issues can we work with together?

SELF ESTEEM:

Why is it that some people seem to have more confidence than others? Do you believe you can change this? The answer is YES, but knowing how is the key and that is where I come in.

It could be that on the outside you feel confident but on the inside unknown to others it feels completely different.

By working with Cognitive Hypnotherapy and NLP I can work with a range of techniques to find out the root cause of the lack of self-esteem, resolve it and work together to find how you do want to be instead.

What does having more confidence mean to you? How would others around you feel about you when you do have it, maybe there are some who don’t like the new more confident you?

We can work together in our session to discuss any concerns you may have and come to a solution of who you want to be.

PHOBIAS

I used to be afraid of butterflies and people used to make fun of me because of it. The annoying thing is it isn’t very nice and can leave us feeling really silly especially as it feels like we have no control over it.

There are many fears or phobias such as flying, specific animals, and driving after an accident. The good thing is that these phobias can be resolved by working with different techniques, giving your control back to you.

STRESS

In today’s world stress has become a normal way of life for lots of people, in severe cases it can lead to mental and other health related issues if not treated.

Stress is related to the mind and how we perceive life, and as a Cognitive Hypnotherapist I can work with you to change your state of mind.

Having a clearer state of mind will allow you to focus more easily to find the best solution for your needs.

ANXIETY

Life can be harder at times than others, like that feeling at night when you try to sleep and have too much information filling your brain leading to sleepless nights.

Little things can also build up over time making it confusing as to what the problem is.

One of the main causes is fear of the future and the unknown ahead, or looking into past events in too much detail for prolonged periods of time. For some this can be exciting but for others can be debilitating.

Anxiety is the bodies coping mechanism when dealing with danger, however in this case the fear is being experienced physically. This makes the bodies fight or flight response work causing the body to react: sweaty palms, dry mouth, heart beating fast, body sweats.

This is what allows the body to respond and run from the dangerous situation. The interesting thing is we sometimes run away or sometimes don’t feeling silly as we know we are not really in danger.

This can lead to anxiety attacks and it is my aim to help you to deal with this as it can be very scary.

The work I can do with you can be really helpful in giving you your power back and learning how to deal with anxiety in a better way.

ADDICTIONS

At times in our lives there may be things we know are not good for our health or general well being. However we end up liking it in excess and finding that however hard we try we can’t stop.

It is a bit like ‘the blue tree syndrome’, if I ask you to not to think about a blue tree, what comes to your mind?

Addictions can be healthy or unhealthy and when they cause damage to our health that is when problems arise and it is my aim in these cases to bring your life into a state of equilibrium.

That could be by cutting out the addiction completely or having a little of what you like in moderation.

WEIGHT LOSS/BREAKING HABITS

Often there are certain things holding us back such as weight loss, alcohol addictions, and smoking addictions. In moderation these can be ok but when they control us it becomes problematic to our health.

The exciting part is there are ways to reduce these habits, control them better or eliminate them completely. I can act as a guide to help you.

GENERAL ISSUES

Although I do focus on specific areas we can have a chat and discuss if I can help you.

Hypnotherapy can be used in many areas and it is my aim to help you in any way I can, even if that means referring you on to someone else.

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Will I lose control (dancing like a chicken)?

A: You’re fully in control at all times.

Q: Will I be able to get out of the trance state or remain stuck?

A: No there is no danger of this, you have complete control

Q: What does the trance state feel like?

A: A light trance can feel similar to day dreaming and a deep trance can feel like waking up from being asleep.

Q: Will you be able to fix me?

A: The therapy itself will only work with the client’s participation and their wish to change. For example I can tell you how to clean your teeth and clean them but you will have to use the toothbrush in-between visits. The change lies within the client and I will act as the guide for change.

Q: Can anyone be hypnotised?

A: As humans we live in a natural trance state 90% of the time, some are more relaxed than others and we can be in a trance state without realising.

If we live in trance states and hypnosis is a trance state then that means that we can all be hypnotised.
